Listening Impression
Listening to the MC Ref V for the first time is like walking into the lobby of some 6-Stars Hotel for the first time. You feel its greatness, its space, its size, its serenity, beauty and very inviting. Once you get into your comfy seat, you just wouldn’t want to go anywhere else but suck in the ambient and enjoy.
Beyond describing how high the resolution, how quiet, dynamic it is (probably all top-notch gears could do some or all of that), the one thing that strikes me is how real reproduced music sounds through it whether its Jazz, Pop/rock, Metal, Classical or what have you. It is truly organic, deliciously musical and true to the vinyl source.
This initial impression was taken in my first few hours of playing the MC Ref V. Extrapolating its potential when it reaches 50 hours is just mind-boggling.

We have officially moved to #04-25 The Adelphi on 21st September 2010. We are happy to let you know that our new showroom is bigger and sounded better than the old one at The Amara. We thank all our customers who have visited us and given us all their encouragement and support.
Due to an unforeseen transportation issue, our planned launch of Whest MC Ref V is delayed. We apologise to all anticipating customers who are so eager to have a listen to this dual chassis, mono-block, world class phonostage. We are continually tracking its probable arrival date and shall update you once more news is in.

Listening Impression
Plugging in the Ocellia Silver Signature phono cable into our main turntable system, we can’t help but to compare it against the highly praised, over achiever entry-level Furutech AG-12. Even before run-in the Ocellia phono cable is already exhibiting more bloom, better extension (especially high) and better realism portrayed in the human voice vis-a-vis the much cheaper AG-12. Also Ocellia Silver signature is really quiet and displays none of the brightness or leanness we usually sense from most pure silver cables even before run-in.

Modular Audio is organising the 2nd series of LP Appreciation Day (LPAD), a free event to promote vinyl culture here. Our last LPAD was held in Nov 2009 (click here to read) and your encouraging response spur us to do this follow-up.
In our first LPAD, we showcased mostly 2D4 collectibles and audiophile stuff but part 2 is kinda different. While our final program is still subject to change, we are looking to play you something interesting - like Digitally Mastered Vinyl; how about some really THIN LP with sharp edges that could almost cut; surprises in Local “CH” pressings; and in Classical Rocks section, we’ll play you some really enjoyable classical music that would not put you to sleep. Shown below, are some classical vinyl (strictly Not-for-Sale) you’ll get to sample. They are from Martin’s secret vault which he swears he’ll guard it for life, so don’t even propose :-)
All in all, LPAD Series #2 promises to be a fun-filled 1.5 hour for sharing and vinyl discovery. Whether you’ve a new vinyl recruit, seasoned “signed-on” officer or have yet to learn how to select a LP track, you’re invited to our show.

Overview
Ground-breaking design is behind the astonishing performance of the Illustrious arm. This award winning arm has been highly acclaimed as a true performance leader.
Origin Live's MK3c version of this tonearm is an arm that easily compares to arms that cost double and more - and that is without exaggeration but based on real listening comparisons.
The MK3 features a completely redesigned bearing housing (yoke) that utilizes an unprecedented dual jewel pivots for vertical movement while enhancing the fixed bearing in the horizontal plane. The result is a more agile arm with greatly reduced friction yielding a faster, purer sound and greater dynamics. Soundstage has expanded into a considerably more three-dimensional or holographic image while the bass response is a touch enhanced.
New "c" version:
The result of this newest “c” version is an even more rigid structure with increased dampening of resonances which can be heard in an even purer tone, blacker background and greater resolution than ever before.
Surprising to many, the armtube is the most critical aspect in tonearm design. It affects performance more than any other single component of the arm. Many of us make the mistake of thinking bearings must be the most important aspect of an arm and while critical to keep the armtube stable and tracking, the effect of detrimental armtube resonance's, as amplified 8,000 times from the cartridge signal to the final speaker output, destroys sound quality in a way that can have devastating effects. The most powerful optical microscope can only magnify 1000 times. When one looks at an arm tube as it plays a record, all seems calm and serene, however at a microscopic level resonant waves in tonearm are like watching the Atlantic sea in a hurricane. The cartridge is held by this constantly heaving / rippling surface and its accuracy in reading the grooves of the record is directly proportional to the level of micro vibration in the arm. Origin Live maintains that for this reason alone the money performance ratio of using a superior tonearm can have very substantial paybacks.
Origin Live's new carbon-hybrid technology addresses this problem head-on and the result is an unprecedented reduction in unwanted and sonically compromising tonearm resonance.

Listening Impression
While we have been “cooking” the demo units since we received them, the first few hours of these entry-level cables are not at all entry-level in performance. It is intensely musical with a rich body that is never warmish nor lacking in detail. We detected a pleasing mid range with an excellent tonal balance that could bring out the vocals separately in a 3D fashion. The power cord is highly flexible and that is good news to many audiophiles who have space constraint putting in or taking out those thick trunks.
The version we have in-stock have been upgraded with Furutech plugs.
