A very handsome system with the following new members - Sonus Faber Stradivari speakers, Passlab Xono (phono pre-amp), PAD AK Limited phono cable and the Clearaudio Double Matrix record cleaning machine (not in picture). . .
A weak link was removed after F&B replaced the 2-part phono cable connection (notice the junction box with a tangling connector) with the formidable PAD AK Limited phono cable that links to the Xono straight through. Without a doubt, the PAD AK Limited is more balance, refine and extended.
Furutech deStat and Clearaudio Syncro SPG are small sidekicks but nevertheless essential to overall outstanding vinyl playback now.
F&B replaced the Hannl Mera with this all new TAS award winner LP cleaner from Germany - Clearaudio Double Matrix. The Double Matrix is the Rose Royce of LP cleaning (read: very pricey). It is built like a Class A amplifier (but runs cool), cleans both sides at the same time with the hurricane-like suction power that is the most fundamental of record cleaning machine.
Excellent German innovation and engineering that blew us away. LPs cleaned by Double Matrix is like going through a car wash (hand) with polish. Your vinyl will shine and with unprecedented silent background! Like Carly Simon’s sang “Nobody Does It Better...”
Curiosity kills the cat - I asked for some sample of his wonderous LP collection and looked what F&B drew out. Classic rock, pop rock, hard rock, psych rock, art rock, prog rock, space rock it’s a school of rock.... Most of them I’ve never seen before let alone listened.
With the bulky furniture out of the way and sub-woofers removed (redundant), F&B’s system is freshened and uncluttered. With an unassuming supply of great software, a bottle of red in hand and the lights dimmed, its not hard to imagine why F&B listens deep into the night...
