Ocellia, makers of high quality, high-efficiency speakers, matching tube amplifiers and cables have announced a new Calliope.30 loudspeaker in 2010.


The all new 2010 Calliope.30 model is smaller in size (compare to the current Calliope.30) but offers the qualities of the Grandis Calliope.30 and at a more affordable price. The new adjustable back door gives the possibility to use this new version in a small room, like 15 m2, with fantastic result.

Ocellia also announces the launch of new Signature upgrade to all the Calliope loudspeakers.

The new Signature upgrade improvements are a 60 mm front panel, instead of 30 mm, with a new anti-vibration structure, never use before in Ocellia’s range. With this upgrade, the new front panel is heavier to give even better stability to the speakers and the drivers. Ocellia also improves the front and back fixing of the drivers by adding a small piece of damping fix on the front panel.

Ocellia also introduces a new power cord made with pure solid core silver and natural insulation aptly named Reference. The Reference power cord makes a major improvement over the current Signature version.

All these products are available as of this writing.

Modular Audio is not participating in this year’s ISSE. However, we are holding a special event called
LP Appreciation Day in our showroom.

So what is LP appreciation all about? It’s about the fun and sharing the fine art of LP-ing with fellow hobbyist and friends Whether you are a newbie or an old-hand in playing vinyl, you would have some lingering LP questions on your mind. Questions like - Is this LP worth the mad price? Does 1st pressings matter? I’ve never heard <fill in your title> in vinyl before, how does it sound? How do I effectively clean my LP? and so on.

We dug deep into our personal collection (strictly Not-for-Sale) and selected some interesting LP for this occasion. In our demonstration, we hope to answer some of your lingering questions as well as share some LP fun and experiences with you. In our never-ending quest for better pressings and exploration of good music, we are sure to learn a thing or two from you too.

Silver :
Silver is less sensitive to MDI than others metals (copper, gold, brass,...), his electrical and musical superiority is explained by his better conductivity, his smooth surface less sensitive to MDI, his oxidation, remaining conductive and his better vibratory performance.

A “Natural" dielectric :
The experiences we have leaded on the use of "Natural" dielectric have demonstrated these ones can fight more efficiently against MDI produced at the interface conductor/dielectric and their spread in the dielectrc or at its surface. This observation, which can not be authenticated by usual measurements but only by a comparison listening test, proves the indisputable subjective superiority of the natural dielectric against synthetic ones (Teflon, PVC, polythylene,...).

The protective outer jacket :
Born of 2 years of works, the protective outer jacket, made up with minerals, allows owing to its structure, to avoid the spread of MDI and to protect from outer damages (humidity,....) the pair conductor/dielectric.

Connectors :
The connectors used to make our cables, are made to minimize the spread of MDI.

This state-of-the-art deck has just been expertly setup and ready for your keen ears in our showroom.

In our years of being a hobbyist and now a hi-fi dealer, we have encountered numerous high-end and cost-no-object turntables. Our initial impression of S10 caught us by surprise - looking nothing pompous or overbearing, this turntable spots a clean, uncluttered, modest (in a good sense), modern and yet space-age look. It has no big supporting platform, no multi-motor, no fat, heavy legs but when we spun our 1st record it made us sit up and listen - it is intensely musical. Refine, smooth, ultra-quiet, detail, stable are all taken for granted for turntables in the premier league but unlike many others - it is not fuzzy and demand that you should only play audiophile pressings LP on it. The S10

The S10 represents a logical summation of over 20 years’ experience in turntable design and, by further elaborating upon the previous models we have produced, raises the quality of our art to new levels of engineering professionalism and aesthetic expression.

Conceived from the outset as a professional working tool, the S10 offers a ‘no-holds-barred’ replay capability by using high quality materials, precision engineered for long-term reliability and consistently accurate reproduction. It represents the very best.

Typically supplied with the S7.1 unipivot tonearm, the S10 permits multiple cartridges to be used and quickly interchanged, allowing professional users the ability to make rapid stylus-profile changes in archival applications and, for the audiophile, the option to make near-instant cartridge selection without the need to realign cartridge geometry.

A total ‘record player’, complete with tonearm, the S10 may be configured as a ‘cutting-edge’ audiophile turntable or as a truly professional precision transcription system destined for use in the world’s largest national sound archives.

The S10 takes the business of analogue disc reproduction to new levels of competency and thus now replaces its precursor, the S7 (extensively used over the past 12 years by audiophiles, musicians and archivists) as a new music industry ‘standard’.

Although primarily a serious working tool, the S10 design is geometrically fastidious. Hundreds of hours were spent studying the classical principles of architecture, sculpture, painting and philosophy in order to assert equilibrium in its physical presentation. This is because ‘the aesthetic of the machine’ is an integral part of modern human experience, and listening to music is very much an aesthetic undertaking.

S 7.1 tonearm

The S7.1 unipivot tonearm is constructed of various aluminium alloys and non-magnetic stainless steels. All its surfaces are treated with a special stress-relieving process and are non-anodised (anodic treatments produce a very hard skin which tends to create an equally ‘hard’ sound characteristic). The tonearm beam is a fine gauge drawn aluminium tube, reinforced with a tapered external tube and internally damped.

The pivot bears directly onto the tonearm’s counterweight beam whilst a slotted plate inhibits all non-rotational or vertical movement in conjunction with a a low-friction sleeve. The headshell is fully detachable, offers adjustment to overhang, offset and azimuth, and locks firmly to the tonearm beam using the cartridge mounting screws. A cueing device permits safe cueing of the tonearm over an extensive arc, whilst an adjustable thread/wheel/weight assembly effects anti-skating.

The internal tonearm wiring uses a high-quality ‘silver-over-copper’ stranded cable with a Teflon dielectric. The four cables exit via a precision 5-way quick-release plug to a connector box usually located to the rear of the tonearm. Connector boxes may be supplied for unbalanced or balanced connections.

Being a unipivot, the (floating) upper part of the tonearm may be simply lifted off the pivot and a second tonearm beam (complete with with pre-fitted and aligned cartridge) introduced. In this way, quick changeover of cartridges may be rapidly affected.

A 12" version of the tonearm is available for the tracing of large format archive discs. The 12" tonearm is able to transcribe discs of up to 20" in diameter whilst the 9" version will accommodate discs of up to 14" in diameter.

The ADN-N phono Preamplifier is designed for person that love vinyl recordings and simply cannot live without. The unit is a complete stand-alone phono preamplifier with an external power transformer and can be used with a line level preamplifier or integrated amplifier and a digital preamplifier with an analog line level input. The good neutrality of the ADN-N enables it to mate equally well with either vacuum tube or solid state electronics.

All critical passive parts in the ADN-N have been selected on the basis of extensive listening evaluation in our own reference system and are chosen primarily for their ability to yield the most transparent neutral sound quality.

The ADN-N accepts the output from both moving-magnet moving-coil cartridges. Gain and impedance can be adjusted to tune the connection for maximum fidelity.
