Tampines got the finishing touch to his newly renovated, breezy and beautiful home with the installation of Coincident’s latest, Triumph Extreme II speakers. The owner was at first, unsure if the “small” place would fit the seemingly larger bookshelf. Upon our site inspection, this room could place a pair of Pure Reference comfortably!
Tampines’ system consists of an Leben integrated amplifier, NAD CD player, Chord cables and the new arrrival Coincident Triumph Extreme II on sand-filled Atacama stands.
The high ceiling with full length curtains, hard wood flooring, the 5m long wall without obstructions (no door) sum up Tampines’ “accidental” hi-fi room looking so tailor-made. The next step would probably be reducing some side reflections, adding a floor carpet plus most importantly - a comfy “Emperor’s seat”.
The small port hole at the back and the use of only single-wire mean easy speaker placement (minimum back-wall distance of 1 foot is enough) plus savings on speaker cables.
This good looking Coincident Triumph Extreme II in Natural Ash finish sounding much like a full-range floorstander. We played demanding pieces from Burmester CD-3 test disc to give the speakers some workout. Yim Hok-Man’s Poem of Chinese Drums certainly shook the new false ceilings.
